As your biggest asset, you want to make sure that your home is well-protected. In Nassau County, where water damage is a common occurrence, that means waterproofing basement walls should be a top priority. Before you start researching and scheduling appointments with Port Washington, NY basement waterproofing contractors, however, you might be wondering about the benefits of waterproofing basement walls. To discover some of the top advantages, keep on reading.
Water Damage Prevention
Without a doubt, water damage prevention is the biggest benefit of Port Washington, NY basement waterproofing. In Nassau County, flooding and moisture damage are common issues that homeowners face. The region is surrounded by water, and storm surges aren’t unusual; neither are heavy, wind-swept rains and high humidity levels. There are other factors that cause flooding and water damage, too, such as overflowing cesspools, drainage issues, malfunctioning water heaters, and pipe bursts. Hiring a contractor that specializes in waterproofing basement walls will prevent the risk of flooding and moisture damage.
A lot of Nassau County homeowners think that waterproofing basement walls is an unnecessary expense; on the contrary, however, it can actually translate to significant savings. Water might be a vital element, but it can be a highly destructive force. All it takes is a small leak to cause widespread damage that can not only destroy your personal possessions, but that can compromise the structural integrity of your entire house. The cost of repairs can be astronomical, and the financial losses can be significant. Hiring a Port Washington, NY basement waterproofing contractor will cost you a lot less than water damage mitigation.
A Healthier Environment
Moisture can damage more than your Nassau County home and your possessions; it can also damage your health. Flooding or even a minor leak can turn your basement into a hotbed of dangerous pathogens, such as mold and mildew spores, and various types of bacteria. Water can welcome pests that like moist environments, too; silverfish, centipedes, earwigs, ants, mosquitos, termites, and cockroaches, for example. In addition to being unsettling, the presence of these pests can be a health hazard, as they can harbor harmful pathogens. To ensure your Nassau County home remains a healthy environment, waterproofing basement walls is definitely worth your while.
Peace of Mind
Knowing that your Nassau County home is protected from flooding and the extensive damage that moisture can cause, coupled with the substantial cost savings, and the fact that you and your loved ones will be living in a healthier environment; all of these factors combined mean that Port Washington, NY basement waterproofing will ensure your peace of mind. Port Washington is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of North Hempstead in Nassau County, on the North Shore of Long Island, in New York, United States. The hamlet is the anchor community of the Greater Port Washington area. The population was 15,846 at the 2010 census.
Much of the Port Washington area was initially settled by colonists in 1664, after they purchased land from the people of the Matinecock Nation.
In the 1870s, Port Washington became an important sand-mining town; it had the largest sandbank east of the Mississippi and easy barge access to Manhattan. Some 140 million cubic yards of local sand were used for concrete for New York skyscrapers (including the Empire State and Chrysler buildings), in addition to the New York City Subway. In 1998, the sand mines were redeveloped as Harbor Links, which is a golf course for North Hempstead residents.
In 1930, Port Washington tried to incorporate itself as a city, which would have had the same boundaries as the Port Washington Union Free School District’s, excluding Sands Point, which had already incorporated itself as a village. This plan ultimately failed when the bill was killed after Baxter Estates, Flower Hill, and Manorhaven incorporated themselves as villages in order to retain home rule of their respective areas.
