How Much Does Basement Waterproofing Cost on Long Island?

Basement waterproofing costs on Long Island range from a few hundred dollars for a single crack repair to mid-five-figures for a full exterior system. The honest answer to "how much" depends on what you need — and here's how to tell.

The three tiers of waterproofing work

Tier 1: Point repairs ($300–$1,500)

For isolated problems — a single leaking crack, a failing pipe penetration, a specific area of seepage. We identify the source, seal it with polyurethane injection or targeted exterior work, and warranty the repair.

This is the right fix when: you have one known leak point and the rest of the foundation is sound.

Tier 2: Interior drainage systems ($5,000–$15,000)

Interior French drain + dimple mat + sump pump. We jackhammer a perimeter trench at the footing, install heavy-duty pipe, apply dimple mat to the walls to redirect seepage into the drain, and pump the water out.

This is the right fix when: water is coming through the foundation at multiple points or through the cove joint where the wall meets the floor. Best for homes where exterior excavation isn't practical.

Tier 3: Exterior systems + Wet Suit™ ($15,000–$50,000+)

Full exterior excavation and waterproofing, or Wet Suit™ by Neptune Coatings for new construction. Exterior waterproofing stops water at the source rather than managing it after it's in.

This is the right fix when: you're doing a serious remodel, new construction, or you're tired of interior systems and want to stop water permanently at the wall.

What actually drives the price

  1. Size of the area. Perimeter feet matter for interior drainage. Wall square footage matters for exterior.
  2. Access. Exterior work around landscaping, decks, or attached garages adds cost. Interior work in finished basements requires careful restoration.
  3. Pump specifications. Pro-series pumps with battery backup cost more than box-store units — but last 3–5× longer.
  4. Drainage termination. Sometimes the water can exit via existing systems. Sometimes we need to engineer a new discharge point.
  5. Warranty coverage. A transferable lifetime warranty costs more upfront but is priceless at resale.

What you should never pay for

  • "Free" assessments that include sales pressure. A proper inspection should end with information, not an aggressive close.
  • "Lifetime warranties" that aren't transferable or don't cover labor. Read the fine print.
  • Box-store sump pumps installed by basement waterproofing contractors. If they're charging pro rates for consumer-grade equipment, walk away.
  • Interior systems without actual drainage capacity. Cove seal products that just coat the wall don't address the water pressure pushing water in.

Cost vs. insurance

Traditional homeowners insurance typically doesn't cover groundwater intrusion — only burst-pipe incidents. That means basement water damage from a failed waterproofing system usually comes out of pocket.

A proper waterproofing system pays for itself if it prevents a single major flood. A finished basement restoration after water damage easily runs $30k–$80k+. A $10k waterproofing system looks cheap by comparison.

"How much" isn't the right question. "How much compared to what happens if I don't" usually is.
